Research
As we often say, our "arterial age" reflects our biological age. Thus, it is essential to understand how ageing of the cardiovascular system impacts vital biological systems, particularly the immune system, which is an essential function that declines with age. In line with this, we aim to advance our knowledge of how vascular ageing influences critical immune functions. This enhanced understanding will deepen our insight into how vascular ageing and immune dysregulations may contribute to cardiovascular diseases, such as stroke and myocardial infarction, which are particularly prevalent in older populations.
Specifically, our objectives include:
-
Investigating the role of vascular senescence within the broader landscape of vascular ageing
-
Examining the interactions between senescent vascular cells and immune cells
-
Assessing the impact of vascular senescence on cardiovascular diseases
To accomplish these ambitious goals, we employ state-of-the-art molecular and cellular techniques, such as high-resolution confocal microscopy and flow cytometry. However, we are also unafraid to explore bold, innovative approaches to further our research.
